Denture Problems

Options from Wisconsin Dental Solutions for Problems with Dentures

It is estimated that 35 million people in the United States are missing all of their teeth on one or both arches. An additional 30 million have bad teeth and/or gum disease and will face losing all of their teeth in the near future. Unfortunately, the only solution for these patients has been full dentures. Until recently.

A full denture is a set of artificial teeth that rests on the gum line. It can often provide an excellent cosmetic result. However, dentures are associated with a number of problems, including:

Dentures are not fixed in place and tend to slip, move or even fall out.

  • This is the number one frustration with dentures.

Dentures can be very uncomfortable and painful, given that they rest on the gums.

  • With dentures, you have only about 25 percent of your natural ability to chew, making your favorite foods almost impossible to enjoy.

Many denture wearers report a lack of confidence because of their dentures.

  • While they can smile, they have trouble eating, singing, being active and sometimes even talking without a nagging fear that their dentures will slip or fall out.
  • Upper dentures cover the roof of your mouth with plastic, which can be uncomfortable and makes even your favorite foods less enjoyable.
  • Dentures do not stop the problem of continuous bone loss, which leads to loosening and less support for the dentures.

Fixed Implant Dentures

Dental implants have proven to be an ideal solution for our cosmetic dentistry patients who are missing all of their teeth on one or both arches. What's more, initial replacement teeth such as dentures or bridges can be adapted for use with implants.

Dental implants are fixed in place and do not move. When you eat, the implants exercise the bone, preventing bone loss, even stimulating bone growth, which leads to improved oral health and allows the implants to last a lifetime. A permanent set of denture teeth can be attached to four to six implants, giving you back 90 percent of your natural biting and chewing abilities. You will be able to enjoy all the foods you like without embarrassment or discomfort.

You can have the complete confidence to eat, speak, sing, laugh, be active, and do all the things you did with natural teeth, knowing that you have a beautiful smile and fully functioning teeth. If you wish to experience the joy of having a natural looking smile and fully functioning teeth, please contact the dentists at our office for your personal consultation.

Implant Removable Denture

If you, like millions of adults, have lost one or more teeth, you may be all too familiar with the unpleasant consequences. For many people, missing teeth lead to an unattractive smile, embarrassment from loose dentures, pain, difficulty eating and a less enjoyable lifestyle.

These unnatural appliances often slip or move and sometimes even fall out. The results can be lack of confidence and the habit of avoiding many activities and social situations.

Dental implants can be placed to give support and help hold your removable denture in place. These implants have special attachments that align with suction cups on the underside of your denture. They will snap together and hold your denture secure when you are talking and eating. However, your dentures are still removable and you will still need to take them out for brushing and cleaning. Oftentimes, your present denture can be adapted to the special attachments on the implants. After your procedure, you will have more confidence and will be able to enjoy all life has to offer without the fear usually associated with standard dentures.
