Oral Sedation

Because comfort is a vital component in a positive, rewarding dental experience, the dentists at Wisconsin Dental Solutions offer many types of anesthesia for your optimal relaxation.

In addition to gentle local anesthetic injections, they can provide nitrous oxide (commonly known as laughing gas), oral sedatives, and oral conscious sedation , which is a combination of nitrous oxide and an oral sedative. Depending upon your unique needs and level of dental anxiety, they will recommend appropriate sedation to ensure your comfort.

With nitrous oxide, you’ll inhale a relaxing gas through a face mask. The effects of nitrous oxide subside almost immediately, so you can return to normal activity following your dental appointment.

Other Dental Sedation Options Provided

An oral sedative can be taken prior to your visit, so you'll feel relaxed and peaceful from the moment you arrive and throughout your procedure. Oral sedation subsides more slowly than nitrous oxide, so please plan to have someone drive you to and from your appointment.

Oral conscious sedation involves taking an oral sedative prior to your visit. Then, once you are in the dental chair, your dentist will administer nitrous oxide. You’ll respond to instructions, yet you’ll feel completely relaxed physically and mentally. As with an oral sedative, you’ll need a driver to and from your appointment.

Patients who suffer with dental phobia, anxiety, or stress, as well as those who require lengthy visits in the dental chair, often benefit from oral conscious sedation. To learn more, give us a call.
