Porcelain Veneers

Cosmetic dentistry is transforming lives through complete smile makeovers, and porcelain veneers lead the list of aesthetic treatments. If you're considering porcelain veneers for a new smile, here's what you can expect.

Dental veneers are thin shells of tooth-like material that are bonded to the surface of the teeth in order to cover chips, cracks, discoloration or unevenness. With porcelain veneers, your smile can be transformed and made beautiful and white in one or two visits. If you want an eye-catching smile, porcelain veneers offer an amazing solution.

To provide you with your new veneers, we will thoroughly examine your teeth to assess your oral health and existing dentition. We will discuss with you the kind of smile you envision, including the color and shape of your ideal smile. Our cosmetic dental experts will take notes on the shade of your teeth, your facial features, and measurements of your face. He'll consider your skin tone and facial symmetry when designing your veneers.

To prepare your teeth for their new veneers, they will be gently buffed to remove 1 to 2 mm of enamel. Tooth reduction will allow the veneers to lie flat, in line with surrounding teeth. Reshaping of teeth may also be required to create the look you want. You will likely receive a local anesthetic to minimize discomfort during the tooth preparation process.

One-Visit Porcelain Veneers

Both Dr. Amstadt and Dr. Lotowski now offer porcelain veneers in one visit using the latest technology known as CEREC (Chairside Economic Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics). At your porcelain veneers appointment, they will prepare your teeth and take digital images in order to design veneers that look beautiful and natural. CEREC will mill your new veneers from shade-matched porcelain. The veneers can be in place during a single visit. Your new porcelain veneers will compliment your face shape, skin tone and overall image.

Two-Visit Porcelain Veneers

Patients who require extensive work may need two or more visits to complete the veneer placement process. In these cases, at the first visit, we will take an impression of your mouth to be sent to a lab, where your custom veneers will be fabricated. Before you leave the dental chair, temporary veneers will be placed. Your teeth may feel sensitive until the permanent veneers are placed, usually within six weeks.

At your next visit, we will place the veneers on your teeth. A local anesthetic may be administered to ensure your complete comfort during veneer placement. A cosmetic dental professional will remove the temporary veneers and check the fit of your permanent veneers. You can look at the shape, color, and fit before they are bonded. If adjustments need to be made, you should alert us at this time. Veneers are not easily altered once they are in place.

If all is well, we will then permanently bond the new veneers to the front surface of your teeth. First, we apply a mild acidic solution to clean the surface of your teeth, then bond the veneers in place. A small light will cure the bonding material and while we make sure that the veneers allow adequate flossing space.
